Ten schools participated in WE Day Vancouver 2019 yesterday. WE Day culminates a year of local and global community projects led by our WE leadership students from across the district. Musicians and inspirational leaders rocked Rogers Arena celebrating and inspiring 18,000 student and teacher attendees from across BC.

SD46 is pleased to announce the results of the board election that took place on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies were held across the district on Friday.

Teacher Kassandra Stinchcombe and her Division 2 Halfmoon Bay class spearheaded and teamed with Ford to start a Sunshine Coast competition to raise money and food for our local food bank. It’s inspired by the Me-2-We organization and was named “First Annual We Scare Hunger Sunshine Coast Competition”. The goal is to not only raise money for our local food bank, which is being used much more than it used to be. But also to encourage empathy, confidence, purpose, service work, and leadership skills in our youth. Several schools participated, and together we raised 4062 units for our local food bank. 1 non-perishable items = 1 unit, and $1 =1 unit. Two students from Kassandra’s Div 2 class did a radio broadcast with Louis from Ford. Schools also did a lot of other work, coming up with creative, meaningful ways to increase awareness and donations.
Langdale raised the most units and Jane Ostasheck’s class brought in an amazing 654 units! Making Langdale the winning school, earning a prize of $250 from Ford. And, Div 1 the winning class, earning another $250 to use how they wish.
A message from Jane: “They worked so hard. Kids just took it on. They had a WE Scare Hunger assembly and wrote songs and poems. They canvassed their neighborhoods! So proud!”

Erik Johnstone, a Chatelech Secondary Graduate, spent the day with Myles Davis, a grade 10 Chatelech Secondary Student, at his work on ‘Take Your Kids to Work Day’. Erik works in Vancouver as a Project Manager/ Mechanical Engineer at Robert Allan Ltd. (Naval Architects and Marine Engineers). Myles said there was lots of information to take in and that he really liked seeing the whole design process from the idea to a finished product. They had a few of their ship designs available as a Virtual Reality model where people can explore the vessel and get a real sense of scale. What an opportunity!

Twas a bright and sunny and dry “SUGAR BOWL 2019″…… 16 teams of grade 7’s from Langdale to Pender Harbour….. enjoying the annual soccer playday.

Students at Madeira Park Elementary made Bannock this week with their Indigenous Ed and Resources Teachers.

From a NESTival pumpkin carving tradition, to Halloween Family Nights, to Halloween Parades, SD46 gets in the spirit!

200 Grade 11 students from across the district attended the DSLT Student Led Grade 11 Forum to discuss relevant topics to their education and experience at YMCA Camp Elphinstone yesterday. Students facilitated group discussions on Environment & Climate Change, Vaping/ Substance Use, and Mental Health. Their discussion points will be analyzed and evaluated for action at the upcoming District Student Leadership Team meeting.
