We Scare Hunger Coast Wide Competition

Teacher Kassandra Stinchcombe and her Division 2 Halfmoon Bay class spearheaded and teamed with Ford to start a Sunshine Coast competition to raise money and food for our local food bank. It's inspired by the Me-2-We organization and was named "First Annual We Scare Hunger Sunshine Coast Competition". The goal is to not only raise money for our local food bank, which is being used much more than it used to be. But also to encourage empathy, confidence, purpose, service work, and leadership skills in our youth. Several schools participated, and together we raised 4062 units for our local food bank. 1 non-perishable items = 1 unit, and $1 =1 unit. Two students from Kassandra's Div 2 class did a radio broadcast with Louis from Ford. Schools also did a lot of other work, coming up with creative, meaningful ways to increase awareness and donations. Langdale raised the most units and Jane Ostasheck's class brought in an amazing 654 units! Making Langdale the winning school, earning a prize of $250 from Ford. And, Div 1 the winning class, earning another $250 to use how they wish. A message from Jane: "They worked so hard. Kids just took it on. They had a WE Scare Hunger assembly and wrote songs and poems. They canvassed their neighborhoods! So proud!"
