Superintendent's Report to the Board | September 2024
- 2024-2025 Student Trustee:
We are excited to welcome Alexis Proust as the student trustee for the 2024-2025 school year. Alexis, a Grade 12 student at Chatelech Secondary, is the 12th student trustee in the district’s history and an active member of the District Student Leadership Team. Her role will be vital in amplifying student voice in board discussions throughout the year.
- “Best Youth Film” Award:
Elphi TV students recently competed in the 2024 Run N Gun 48-hour film competition, where their short film “Chad & Brad’s Musical Adventure” was selected among the top 40 entries out of 149 and screened at the Orpheum Theatre. They were awarded the “Best Youth Film” honor, receiving $250, a $1,000 G&E package from The Lockup, and a Youth Acting Class from Mitribe. Their film was also showcased at the Heritage Playhouse, accompanied by a crew panel discussion. We are incredibly proud of their remarkable achievement!
- September Start-Up:
Students and staff returned to our schools with enthusiasm and hope for the year ahead. We are grateful to the Sunshine Coast Learning Community for infusing our schools with renewed energy and excitement.
- StrongStart, SPARK! and Child Development Classes:
Our StrongStart, SPARK!, and Child Development programs have resumed for the fall, offering valuable opportunities to engage with families and support early childhood development within our community.
- Educational Leadership Team Summer Session:
Our leadership team gathered this summer to align district goals with provincial priorities for the coming school year. The session provided a strong foundation for leaders to guide their schools and teams in aligning with the district’s new Strategic Plan and Ministry’s direction.
- Operations Kickoff Session:
In late August, the Educational Leadership Team, School Board Office staff, administrative assistants, and clerical staff came together for our annual Operations Kickoff Session. This event provided training on Compassionate Systems Leadership, led by Caroline Picard, and launched our new Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment and readiness for the school year ahead.
- September 3rd Pro-D Day and Strategic Plan Launch:
Over 400 educational staff members gathered at Chatelech Secondary for a powerful day of learning and collaboration, launching our new five-year Strategic Plan. The day began in circle on the field and continued with engaging group activities in the gym, introducing staff to the Strategic Plan’s aspirational goal and nine supporting strands. In the afternoon, school and department teams worked together to align their practices and goals with the new district plan, deepening their commitment to this shared vision.
- Maintenance and Facilities Department:
Throughout the summer, our Maintenance and Facilities team has been hard at work completing key projects and ensuring our schools and departments are ready for the new school year. Their dedication has provided welcoming, safe, and well-organized spaces for students, staff, and families as we begin this new chapter together.
- Summer Institute: In late August, District Principal of Learning and Innovation offered Literacy Primary and Intermediate Workshops.
