Message from the Chair – October 2024

In June we focus on our value of celebration and there are many opportunities to practice and demonstrate our value of celebration this month. One of the celebrations that has become increasingly important during my time on the Board is Pride. And June is Pride month!

Learning: Growing through holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential, relational, and personalized learning. (As reflected in the First Peoples Principles of Learning.)

With our Strategic Plan launched, we find ourselves nestled in our canoe, paddles in the water, solidly on our journey together. Our values guide our decisions, especially when we navigate challenging waters. October provides us the perfect opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our value of Learning, as we recognize all staff for their dedication, leadership, and contributions to our students’ success.

Our value of Learning is deeply rooted in the power of teaching and in the contributions of everyone who supports our schools. In October, we celebrate all who work in the education sector—whether leading our schools, delivering lessons, providing support, or maintaining welcoming environments that foster student learning. Your dedication to transforming education through nurturing our learners is at the core of our journey. Together, we will grow our learning as we implement our Strategic Plan, and I’m truly grateful to be on this journey with all of you.

To celebrate and recognize everyone’s contributions, on behalf of the board of education I wrote a letter of appreciation and inspiration to all staff members in the Sunshine Coast School District. Please keep an eye on your inbox for your letter!
