Next week is Spring Break for our learning community. We use this break to witness the change of seasons from winter to spring, recharge and prepare for our journey towards the end of the school year.
Along with the early spring flowers, March brings about International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025. The Government of Canada’s theme for International Women’s Day this year is Strength in every story. The global theme for International Women’s Day this year is Accelerate Action: Advancing and celebrating women’s equity worldwide.
This year’s themes highlight the importance of making space for the voices of women, especially those who to face barriers to success and taking tangible action toward equity now. Every woman’s story reflects where we are as a learning community, society and a country. And there is a lot to tell. According to data from the World Economic Forum it would take until 2158, at our current rate of progress, to reach full gender parity. Let’s move swiftly and accelerate our action towards gender parity.
My wish this month is that we invite the women in our lives to share their story and that we hear stories about resilience, determination, and redemption. We hear stories about opportunity and freedom. We hear stories about leadership and risk-taking. We hear stories of security and safety. Thinking about the important women and girls in your life reflect on their stories. What do you think they are?
This International Women’s Day, celebrate the women and girls in your life and ask them to share their stories. Let these stories inspire action.
We wish all staff, students and community a wonderful Spring Break!
