Fire Academy 2026
SD46 would like to extend an enormous amount of gratitude to the volunteers from the Sechelt, Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Halfmoon Bay and Pender Harbour Fire Halls, as well as Nick Wingfield and his crew from BC Wildfire Service in Sechelt, for their time and energy in ensuring that our Fifth Annual Fire Academy was another roaring success.
And an extra shout out goes to Sechelt Deputy Chief of Prevention Steven Achterberg who dedicates countless hours of his time in securing private donors, preparing and organizing all of the equipment and materials, amoung the many other duties he undertakes, in ensuring that the Academy is a high quality and intensive experience for our students.
We would also like to thank Sechelt Tim Horton’s for their generous donation of coffee, hot chocolate and donuts for our Program End Celebration.
The Academy ran from March 14-21, with 14 Gr. 11 and 12 students from all of the secondary schools on the Coast participating. The Program Celebration occurred on March 28, in which the student cadets were able to demonstrate their newly learned skills to their family and friends. We are definitely looking forward to next year’s Academy!
