Grade 8-12 band students from Chatelech and Elphinstone Secondary were invited to attend the annual District Band Camp. Specialist musician/teachers were brought in to lead instrument-specific clinics in Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, low brass, and percussion, and our own Steve Karagianis led a clinic for bass players. Retired master teacher and 35 year veteran of SD36, Dave Fullerton, led the massed ensemble in a morning rehearsal (for grade 8-12), gave the jazz band a very inspiring and productive clinic, and ended the day with a 90 minute rehearsal for grade 9-12 senior band students.
Superintendent Patrick Bocking gave a presentation of the new district band uniforms, seeking student feedback on a few choices.
Thanks to Steve Karagianis and Sara Douglas for hosting the event, Tom Kellough for all his efforts and organization in making the day a success, and to the Elphinstone staff for opening up their classrooms to hold instrument clinics.
