COVID-19: The Child Care Survey for Essential Service Workers

March 27, 2020

Dear Families,

As you are aware, face to face instruction has stopped in all BC schools as of March 17, 2020.  School Districts are being asked to consider the needs of employees involved in essential service occupations and work with community partners to provide support. If you require child care because you are currently employed in an essential service occupation AND have no other option than to have your child/children receive group child care in a school please complete the survey.

Please submit the survey by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

It is important that essential service workers exhaust all possibilities for supervision of their children first, before accessing the essential services that may be provided in school settings. This will help SD46 in its efforts to safely apply health and safety protocols as defined by the Provincial Medical Health Officer.

School Districts are tasked with providing child care for Essential Service Workers that is above and beyond what is provided in the community. If you are already working with a community child care, please continue to do so.

Note: Essential Service Workers (ESWs) are those individuals considered critical to preserving life, health and societal functioning – including emergency responders, front-line health care workers, and critical infrastructure and supply chain workers.

If you are an Essential Service Worker in our district and require child care for students aged 5 – 12, please complete The Survey for Essential Service Workers on the district website’s dedicated COVID-19 Information page by Wednesday, April 1st, 4:00 pm.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kirsten Deasey
