MyEducation and Spaces Notice

Families and Caregivers Notice | MyEducation and Spaces

In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, software and digital tools have become an important part of our educational settings. With the goal of enhancing learning experiences for students and supporting timely feedback to students, families, and caregivers, the Sunshine Coast School District will be using MyEducation and Spaces to support ongoing communication between home and school. Spaces will complement MyEducation by providing a user-friendly multi-media platform that has the ability to capture student learning over time, with students being the authors of their own stories.

Similar to the process followed for MyEducation, a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA 2022-02) was completed on SPACES to ensure that all student data will be protected and that we are following the Privacy and Protection Act. Both MyEducation and Spaces are web-based applications hosted on Canadian Microsoft Azure servers and both are tools designed to support ongoing communication with families about student learning.

 These tools provide the following:

MyEducation:

  • stores vital demographic information
  • links the school district to the Ministry of Education and Child Care
  • produces report cards for all students
  • communicates student learning in relation to the BC curricular content and competencies

Spaces:

  • communicates student learning in relation to the Core Competencies and goals set by the student
  • supports reflection on the Core Competencies in ways that meet individual student preferences or needs including video, voice recordings, photos, written, and typed formats/options
  • supports personalization, inclusion, diversity, cultural expression, and student engagement
  • provides teachers with further options for assessment and reporting

Both MyEducation and Spaces facilitate communication of a student’s unique learning journey with their families and caregivers. We invite families and caregivers to engage with both of these platforms to support their child’s learning and to receive regular communications.
