Message from the Chair – September 2025

In June we focus on our value of celebration and there are many opportunities to practice and demonstrate our value of celebration this month. One of the celebrations that has become increasingly important during my time on the Board is Pride. And June is Pride month!

Welcome to the 2025/26 school year! We hope everyone had a restful summer with opportunities to connect with friends and family and create special memories.

This September marks our second year paddling together under our transformative 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, Paddling Towards Irresistible Futures. This plan — centered on a single, aspirational student learning goal and supported by nine strands of learning — guides our daily efforts toward creating exceptional educational experiences.

Over the coming school year, we are excited to explore how the nine strands of learning come alive in our classrooms and schools. Through our reports, we will share and celebrate these moments of learning with you. As always, the Board remains committed to values-based decision-making, holding our core values of Belonging, Learning, Integrity, and Equity up for examination with every decision we make.

For the second year in a row, we began our school year with a district-wide professional development day. This is quickly becoming a new tradition — one that brings every member of our district team together to reflect on why we are here: to serve our learning community. It is an inspiring way to align our efforts, set our intentions, and prepare to welcome students back into classrooms ready for a year of connection, growth, learning and joy.

As we journey into 2025/26, we invite you — our learning community — to stay engaged and join us in celebrating progress. Your insights, support, and feedback are vital as we continue to build schools where every student belongs, learns deeply, and can achieve their fullest potential with dignity, options and purpose.

On behalf of the Sunshine Coast Board of Education, thank you for the trust you place in us. We are excited for the year ahead, grateful for the dedication of our staff, and proud to walk alongside the students, families, and community partners in our learning community as we continue this journey together.
