Circle Of Care: Students Halloween: SD46 schools know how to get in the spirit of Halloween! Fun, spooky and spirited play was on display throughout the district on Friday, October 29th. From pumpkin carving and ghoulish cake contests to costume parades and haunted houses, it is always a special and memorable day for staff and students

1. a) Mentoring Club for Girls at Elphinstone Secondary: Tea Time is a new club created this year by senior students to build a safe place for the junior students to ask questions, meet new people, play games, and drink tea, of course. (1a, 1b)

1. a) 2021/2022 Student Trustee: We are thrilled to welcome Matthew Douglas to the Board of Education as the student trustee for the 2021/2022 school year. Matthew is the 9th student trustee in the district’s history and is a member of the district student leadership team. He attends Chatelech Secondary in his grade 12 year.

1. a) Literacy Joy! Many teachers attended the ‘Psst…Don’t Tell Your Friends’ event and ordered new books for their classroom libraries. Also, books for children newborn to age 12 are available for students across the coast to borrow this summer through the WonderWheels Bookmobile and in Summer StrongStart programming. (1d)

1. a) MDI: School data for the 2020/2021 school year is now available and district data will be available in June. Teachers, counsellors and principals will be supporting the strengthening of student voice by participating in training on May 13th to review lesson plans which will engage students so that they see their voice reflected in the data, celebrate strengths and notice gaps and then plan action as a response to what they see and discuss. This will be happening in grade 5, 7 and 8 classrooms across the district. (1a, 1f)

1. a. a) SD46 Virtual Student Forum: Groups of Grade 8 of 12 students from each secondary school recently met virtually to discuss important and relevant topics for youth and their learning experience with trustees and leadership staff in the annual student forum hosted by the District Student Leadership Team (DSLT). (1a)

1. a. Report cards were sent home on March 5th and schools will dismiss one hour early on Wednesday, March 10th and Thursday, March 11th for the opportunity for parent teacher The vast majority of meetings will be virtual or phone calls. (1b)

1. a. SPARK! Classes begin this month offering parents, child care providers and caregivers of children newborn to five years old a 90-minute SPARK! class on ZOOM. (1b)

1. a. Winter celebrations: School cheer and holiday spirit were in no short supply this season! We found new ways to celebrate the season safely and our creativity paved ways for new traditions across the district. (1b)
