1. a) Literacy Joy! Many teachers attended the ‘Psst…Don’t Tell Your Friends’ event and ordered new books for their classroom libraries. Superintendent’s Report to the Board | May 2021

1. a) MDI: School data for the 2020/2021 school year is now available and district data will be available in June. Teachers, counsellors and principals will be supporting the strengthening of student voice by participating in training on May 13th to review lesson plans which will engage students so that they see their voice reflected in the data, celebrate strengths and notice gaps and then plan action as a response to what they see and discuss. This will be happening in grade 5, 7 and 8 classrooms across the district. (1a, 1f)

1. a. a) SD46 Virtual Student Forum: Groups of Grade 8 of 12 students from each secondary school recently met virtually to discuss important and relevant topics for youth and their learning experience with trustees and leadership staff in the annual student forum hosted by the District Student Leadership Team (DSLT). 1. a. Remembrance Day ceremonies and activities looked a little different this year. Our community found creative and caring ways to honour the day: collaborative school displays, pre-recorded online ceremonies displaying classroom projects, poetry and songs, and a school wide paper crane making project, to name a few. Following our district wide survey and reaching out to families this week by phone and email, 75.2% of our students and families have indicated option 1 (Full Time In-Class Learning) and 15.5% of families have chosen Option 2 (Transition Phase). As of the end of last week, we have been unable to connect with approximately 9% of our students so this % will increase as more students/ families indicate their preferences. (1b)
