Air Quality Advisory for the Region 250903

Dear SD46SC Learning Community,

As you may be aware, many regions across B.C. are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours. We are closely monitoring conditions. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) has not yet registered air quality risk levels for the Sunshine Coast. However, winds and air quality can shift quickly.

Vancouver Coastal Health has shared this resource map that provides more localized air quality information, particularly useful for rural areas.

If air quality worsens, we will be taking the following steps:

  • Allowing students and staff who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors during breaks, lunch, and outdoor activities.
  • Keeping exterior doors and windows closed.
  • Rescheduling outdoor activities, especially strenuous ones such as P.E.
  • Closely monitoring students and staff with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. If you have any questions, please connect with your child’s teacher or principal, or email us at questions@sd46.bc.ca

Sincerely,
Sunshine Coast School District
