It’s been a month chock-full of activity for the Board. On top of that, due to February already being a short month and Spring Break coming up, we have needed to compress all our meetings and activities into the first two weeks of March.
Kindergarten Registration begins February 19th. Parents are invited to register anytime, but we emphasize this time so that our principals know how many children are coming so that they can prepare their schools for our newest students’ arrival in September.
Trustees were pleased to take part in School Tours last month over a three-day period. Generally, one half hour was spent touring each school, as well as the maintenance building and Sechelt Learning Centre.
All of our grade 3 and 4 students enjoyed a professional presentation of The Nutcracker ballet. Special thanks to Kathleen Holmes for her partnership in coordinating this special experience.
While the time between this and the previous board report was short, due to the winter break, it was by no means void of activity. Winter performances and activities were held throughout the district. Unfortunately, with some of the storms, a few concerts were cancelled. Student safety is always our number one priority, and if that means not riding on those roads with parents trying to get to the school, then that’s what that means.
Seven experienced educators assessed the grade 4 and 7 Foundation Skills Assessments for our district to enable us to plan effectively for continued student improvement in Literacy and Numeracy.
Students and staff reflected on the pain of past and current conflicts at Remembrance Day Ceremonies that were held in all of our schools on Friday, November 9.
Most Kindergarten students have completed the screening process to identify potential challenges to their learning as well as to identify their level of literacy and numeracy skills.
Sunshine Coast Community Schools have had another successful summer season including a strong effort to have reading a part of their activities.
As we near the end of June, we’d like to reflect back on a few of the things that happened over this school year. We have some incredible programs and initiatives in this district, all focused on engaging our students, staff and community in lifelong learning.
