Sunshine Coast School District Welcomes New Manager of Feeding Futures<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"SUNSHINE COAST, BRITISH COLUMBIA \u2013 <\/strong>Sunshine Coast School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Potter as the Manager of Feeding Futures following an extensive hiring process. This newly created position is a direct result of the Feeding Futures Funding introduced by the province last year, which aims to establish sustainable food systems to support student food security across the district.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Andrea Potter, a Red Seal Chef with over 20 years of professional culinary and nutrition experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. She has held head chef positions in various kitchens, and provided culinary and nutrition education.\u00a0She has demonstrated a strong commitment to student well-being through her work on the Sunshine Coast. Her journey with the district began when she volunteered for her children\u2019s elementary school Breakfast Club program. Andrea’s dedication and leadership were further demonstrated through her involvement in the district\u2019s Central Kitchen pilot program, where she served as the Kitchen Manager.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Last year, Sunshine Coast School District successfully ran\u00a0a pilot program where food made at the Central Kitchen location was delivered to nearby schools. The program supplements what students brought from home. The program initially started with three schools and expanded to include two additional schools last spring. This September, two more schools will join the Central Kitchen Program, reflecting the ongoing commitment to enhancing student nutrition and food security.\u00a0<\/p>

In her new role as Manager of Feeding Futures, Andrea will oversee food provision across the district, ensure compliance with food safety and permitting regulations, and manage reporting and food education initiatives. She will work closely with district teams and collaborate with community and provincial food organizations. A key part of her role will be to lead, train, and guide the Central Kitchen team, ensuring the delivery of safe and healthy food to participating students. To support the expanded program, three part-time CUPE Food positions have been created and staffed this summer, further strengthening the district\u2019s commitment to food security and student health.<\/p>

Andrea expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating, \u201cI am eager to contribute my skills, knowledge, and practical experience to support the school district\u2019s vision of improving student health and well-being.\u201d<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Superintendent Kate Kerr welcomed Andrea to her new position, saying, \u201cWe are thrilled to have Andrea join our team as the Manager of Feeding Futures. Her extensive experience and commitment to student health will be a tremendous asset to our district. We look forward to the positive impact she will make in ensuring that all students have access to nutritious food options that support their learning and development.\u201d<\/p>
