Circle Of Care: Students<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  1. Fundraisers:<\/strong> Across the district, staff and students are making a difference in our local and wider community with fundraising campaigns to help those in need this holiday season and raise money for disaster relief. Through these efforts, students are continuing their development of the Personal and Social Core Competency, and its sub-competency, Social Awareness and Responsibility, which focuses on interacting with others and the natural world in respectful and caring ways.   2. SD46 Sleep Week: November 29th<\/sup> \u2013 December 3rd<\/sup>:<\/strong> This week was full of fun activities and learning opportunities to help promote better outcomes for our students. A parent information package is also available on the district website and has been shared with families across the Coast. (1g)<\/li>
  3. SD46 Week of Code, December 6th<\/sup> \u2013 10th<\/sup>: <\/strong>This unforgettable week is filled with coding workshops, opportunities to learn about our local Library\u2019s newest S.T.E.A.M kits, robot demonstrations and more. (1j)<\/li>
  4. Career Program Launches:<\/strong> The Pro Cook 2 and Junior Fire Fighter Academy are launching at SD46 in the New Year! The programs are currently being promoted to secondary students and applications and interest are rolling in. (1l)<\/li>
  5. 2020-2021 Graduation rates are in!<\/strong> SD46 resident student six-year completion rate is at an all-time high of 93.4%. The SD46 Indigenous student six-year completion rate is 84.6%, closely matching the 2019-2020 all time-high rate of 84.7%. (1l)<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    1. Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics:<\/strong> Teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 12 worked with Peter Liljedahl on November 22nd<\/sup> in the first session of the \u2018Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics\u2019 series. Teachers questioned institutional norms and practices and explored research into how teachers can transform their classrooms to encourage student engagement and mathematical thinking. (2b)<\/li>
    2. Our district SOGI committee<\/strong> met this past week.\u00a0It was\u00a0acknowledged that we are doing really good work in SD46. We are recognised provincially. We have a model of school leads with 2-3 leads in every school along with a district committee that makes recommendations. The SOGI committee has made the decision to increase its student representation from one student to three. There are exciting plans that will be further\u00a0developed in the new year. (2c)<\/li>
    3. On November 26th<\/sup> and 29th<\/sup> all site-based Health and Safety Committees<\/strong> participated in a full day training provided by Burnaby School District. (2d)<\/li>
    4. Parent\/Teacher Interviews: <\/strong>Report cards went home on November 26th<\/sup> and early dismissal days were on December 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup>, providing time for parents to connect with teachers regarding their child\u2019s learning. Again, this year, virtual meetings were encouraged. (2e)<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      1. Travel Restrictions, Fuel Prioritization and Impact for School District: <\/strong>The last few weeks have been incredibly difficult for our province and for many who are working and living in areas\u00a0directly impacted by flooding and landslides. The Province has\u00a0 implemented\u00a0two temporary emergency orders<\/a>to restrict non-essential travel in some areas and to prioritize fuel\u00a0for essential vehicles and is in effect now until December 14th<\/sup>.\u00a0The actions taken by the government are temporary and school districts have been asked to eliminate non-essential travel and take\u00a0measures to restrict our fuel consumption.\u00a0 We have asked that families consider other modes of transportation to school that do not require driving.\u00a0(3a)<\/li>
      2. COVID-19 Vaccination for Children Ages 5-11<\/strong>: The COVID-19 vaccination is now authorized by Health Canada for children five and older. Getting young people vaccinated helps protect them and the people around them.\u00a0At SD46, any time a vaccine clinic is scheduled by VCH in our schools, families are provided with information in advance of the clinic. As per our regulation<\/a>, we will notify parents of any future clinic dates through school correspondence and send individual student immunization consent form and immunization information home for a parent to sign and return. As per our regulation, ALL vaccines for elementary students (Grades K-7, inclusive) must have parental consent.<\/strong> (3a, 3c)<\/li>
      3. Inclement Weather: <\/strong>The week of November 15th<\/sup> brought heavy rains, power outages, and flooding to the province and our Sunshine Coast community. Notices of school bus delays and cancelations as well as a school closure were made as the need arose for affected communities in our district. As we enter the darker and colder days of winter when inclement weather can impact the school district, we have shared a reminder with our community of our district\u2019s inclement weather protocols<\/a>.       4. SD46-SCRD Joint Use Agreement: <\/strong>The Joint Use Agreement is being reactivated starting January 4th<\/sup>, 2022. The Agreement allows for FREE access to SCRD recreation facilities for curricular and extra-curricular activities for SD46 students. Additional costs may apply when increased staff is needed (e.g. swimming lesson instructors).
