Message from the Chair – June 2016

By celebrating the contributions of students, staff and community members, we create unity and bring joy to our work together.”

This is a perfect month to talk about our value of celebration.  There is so much appreciation of the contributions of all our stakeholders this month.  At the many retirement celebrations, whether school-based, district-sponsored or hosted by professional associations the message is the same. We are so grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone at this time of year, but especially those who have decided to retire and move to other challenges in life.  The sense of joy at these celebrations is wonderful but there is also sadness at seeing colleagues move on, but we all know our community will continue to benefit from the many retired district employees who continue to help ensure students know their community cares about them.

This month also marks the transition for our student trustee. Wyatt Henley has done a great job and heads to UBC in the fall. The District Student Leadership Team met with incoming members this month and will meet with the Board at the September to get to know trustees and observe the Board process. They will then meet to select their incoming trustee to be sworn in at the October board meeting.  The direct contribution of students at our board table has been very valuable these past few years and we look forward to welcoming our new trustee.

Thanks to all our staff, students and community partners for a wonderful year.  Have a safe, happy summer and we all look forward to welcoming you back in September.
