The next general local election will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018

Elections and by-elections are conducted according to the rules and regulations set out in the Local Government Act which governs local government elections throughout British Columbia.

Beginning in 2014, general local government elections in British Columbia will be held every four years, including the elections for the offices of School District Trustee on the Board of Education.  For information on all aspects of voting or running for office in local government elections, please visit the following websites:

Running for School Trustee

To be eligible as a candidate in a local government election, at the time of nomination, you must:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen; AND
  2. Be, or will be, 18 years of age or older on or before general voting day (October 20, 2018); AND
  3. Have lived in BC for at least six months (March 13, 2018, is the last day to meet six month residency requirement for candidates); AND
  4. Have not been disqualified by any law or statute from being nominated, elected or holding office.


Nomination Packages

Those interested in running as a School Trustee candidate in the 2018 General Local Election can pick up a nomination package at any of the following locations, during regular business hours:

  • School District No. 46 Board Office – 494 South Fletcher Road, Gibsons, BC
  • District of Sechelt Municipal Hall – 2nd Floor, 5797 Cowrie Street, Sechelt, BC
  • Sechelt Indian Government District Office – 5545 Sunshine Coast Hwy, Sechelt, BC
  • Sunshine Coast Regional District Office – 1975 Field Road, Sechelt, BC
  • Town of Gibsons Municipal Hall – 474 South Fletcher Road, Gibsons, BC

Packages will be available for pick up and online until 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018.


Filing Nomination Papers

The period to file nomination documents is from 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 until 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018.  Nomination papers must be filed with the Chief Election Officer, Nicholas Weswick, or designate, at the School Board Office during regular office hours (8:30 am – 4:30 pm).   Appointments are strongly recommended, please call 604-886-4483 to book an appointment.

*Originals of faxed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 21, 2018, or the nomination is deemed to be withdrawn.
