Message from the Chair – November 2015

Lots of good news was delivered at the November Board of Education meeting. First of all, a big welcome to Paul Bishop who joins the senior management team this month as Director of Instruction: Human Resources and Secondary Programs. We also welcome April McKnight as interim principal for Pender Harbour Elementary Secondary School. We are very happy to have such strong leaders supporting students in our district.  Other good news was the announcement in the Secretary Treasurer's report of over $400,000 from the Minor Capital grant program for the boiler upgrade at Madeira Park Elementary School. These funds will have a huge positive impact for the comfort of students and reduce our carbon footprint (and maintenance costs!!) in a big way.

The Board also confirmed a change to the calendar for 2015/16 to allow for the additional 10 hours of non-instructional time to assist teachers with transitioning to the new curriculum. This change was mandated by the Ministry of Education in September of this year and our board has tried to accommodate the change with as little impact to families and the community as possible.Check out the announcement on our website at wwwsd46.bc.ca or the minutes of our November 10 Board meeting for further details.

The public is always welcome at our board meetings, the second Tuesday evening of each month.  Any questions or concerns, feel free to contact any one of your elected trustees.
